| Windows and Linux are differant operating systems, and function and work in completly differant ways, some things work on windows and not on Linux and vica verse. Windows Hosting will support Lanaguages such as ASP / ASP.net and MSSQL where as Linux currently does not, and Gennrally supports PHP, MySQL, Perl, Python, Ruby on Rails and many others. It is strongly advised unless you explicitly need applications which run exclusivly on Windows, it is usually better to choose Linux. Linux in general is the most common operating system for web servers, and arguably is better designed for the job. If your are still a little confused about the differances between Linux and Windows, a more familiar example may be Mac OS and Windows, they are differant and programs run differantly on each, Mac is generally favoured by designers and visual and media editors, where as Windows stereotyped to be better in a office enviorment - Linux is usually a Server OS. Also most Linux OS's are free, which reduces the cost to you, the user! |
